Chula Vista, CA - City Review

"Located on the San Diego Bay, just minutes from the Pacific Ocean beaches, life in Chula Vista – Spanish for "beautiful view" – can seem like a permanent vacation. A moderate climate, a host of housing and neighborhood options, and good schools are a few other reasons Chula Vista made our list of the Best Cities for Families.

With a population of more than 253,000, Chula Vista is the largest city on this list, and it's also the most diverse, which means parents who want their children exposed to people of varying cultures and backgrounds won't be disappointed. Chula Vista's size also offers families a number of neighborhood choices. For example, the culturally diverse Castle Park features quiet homes nestled among rolling hills."

Santa Barbara, CA - City Review

"Commonly referred to as the “American Riviera” thanks to its beautiful beaches, high mountains and cultural treasures, Santa Barbara is located about two hours north of Los Angeles. Several wineries can be found nearby, as well as many opportunities to hike, swim and go boating. With many resorts and hotels on its coastline, Santa Barbara’s economy hinges on tourism, but also has a strong service sector with top employers in industries ranging from manufacturing to technology and education." Fred Sed Friday Tips

Fred Said brings up tips from the world of relocation and real estate in sunny Southern California on his YouTube channel segment Fridays with Fred. Check him out every Friday for some great information and answers to common relocation questions, neighborhood reviews, and the latest in real estate developments.

I personally enjoy listening to his quick takes on different neighborhoods, their schools, and safety ratings. This can be an especially tricky part of navigating a move to an area you are otherwise unfamiliar with. Where to live? Where is safe? Where are there good schools? What are the average home prices or rental prices? What is the commute distance to major city centers?

Hopefully you will find some of these as helpful as I have!

Smooth Move Binder

Looking for the ultimate organizational tool for transitioning from point a to point b? Look no further than Megan's 'Smooth Move Binder Kit' available from her blog 'The Home I Have Made' (link below).

Megan, the wife of a U.S. Marine and mom to a 5 year old boy, has taken her experiences moving from place to place and put together this handy tool to help the newbies out there keep it together! Thanks, Megan!

Among sections like Inventory, Utilities, Expenses, and Destinations you will fine my favorite gem, Will It Fit. What a great way to analyze what you have, what you need, and what's worth lugging across the country!

She also includes a color-coded excel spreadsheet checklist of to do's covering everything from turning off old utilities, turning on new ones, and giving notice at your job. It is well laid out and organized with columns for who, where, notes, and deadline dates.

Check it out and I'm sure you will find it to be a great starting point.
